The Oklahoma City Thunder picked Reggie Jackson in the first round of the 2011 NBA Draft

The Thunder picked 21-year old, 6′3″, 208 pound SG/PG Reggie Jackson with the 24th overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft. Jackson played in 34 games for Boston College last year and he averaged 34.1 minutes, 18.2 points, 4.3 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.1 steals per game. He played in 99 games in his three years in college and he averaged 28.0 minutes, 12.7 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game. This pick kind of surprised me a little bit as Jackson is a offensive player who likes to take his shots. It’s hard to see where Jackson fits in unless the Thunder deal Thabo Sefolosha or Eric Maynor before the 2011-12 season begins.

The Oklahoma City Thunder will be looking to make a solid pick on Thursday in the NBA Draft

The Thunder have the #24 overall pick in the NBA Draft this Thursday. The Thunder should consider using the pick on the best available small forward. That way they can give Kevin Durant a day off once in a while. Tyler Honeycutt out of UCLA would be a perfect fit as Durant’s caddy. Marcus Morris, Tobias Harris and Jordan Hamilton are other small forwards that could be available. The Thunder could also decide to take a big man at #24 with center Jordan Williams and PF Trey Tompkins being the best two bigs available. I think I would go with a small forward though to give Kevin Durant a break just like Eric Maynor does for Russell Westbrook.

The Oklahoma City Thunder acquire forward Latavious Williams from the Heat

The Thunder have acquired rookie 21-year old forward Latavious Williams from the Heat for a second round pick in 2011. Williams was picked #48 overall by the Heat and he is the first player in NBA history drafted out of the NBDL. Williams played in 47 games (9 starts) with the Tulsa 66ers last season and he averaged 7.7 points, 7.7 rebounds and 0.7 assists per game. The Thunder will likely bring Williams along slowly.

The Oklahoma City Thunder acquire Ryan Reid from the Pacers

The Thunder selected center Magnum Rolle out of Louisiana Tech with the 51st overall pick of the NBA Draft. They then traded Rolle to the Pacers for the rights to 23-year old forward Ryan Reid. Reid was picked with the 56th overall pick of the NBA Draft. He played in 31 games at Florida State in which he averaged 6.8 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game. He played in 126 games in his college career and he averaged 5.0 points, 3.9 rebounds and 0.7 assists per game. Reid will likely be nothing more than a backup in the NBA and I don’t like this trade at all for the Thunder.

The Oklahoma City Thunder acquire Tibor Pleiss from the Hawks

The Thunder have acquired 20-year old center Tibor Pleiss (#31 overall pick) from the Hawks for some cold, hard cash. Pleiss is a big guy at 7′1″, 242 pounds but he’s kind of soft. He played in 34 games in Germany last season and he averaged 8.3 points, 5.5 rebounds, 0.2 assists and 1.4 blocked shots per game. In four years in Germany, Pleiss played in 73 games in which he has averaged 6.0 points, 3.8 rebounds, 0.2 assists and 0.9 blocked shots per game. The Thunder are collecting big guys and that bodes well for the future.
