Scott Brooks did a solid job for the most part for the Oklahoma City Thunder

Blogged under General, Bloglockers, Need to step up, Front Page by alleyoop on Monday 30 May 2011 at 8:09 pm

45-year old head coach Scott Brooks led the Thunder to a 55-27 (67.1%) record during the regular season in 2010-11. He also got the Thunder to the Western Conference Finals, before falling 4 games to 1 to the Mavericks. The Thunder were 9-8 (52.9%) overall during the playoffs. Brooks was really getting outcoached pretty badly by Rick Carlisle in the Western Conference Finals though, so everything’s not rosy with him. Brooks now has a 127-106 (54.5%) record during the regular season in his first three years with the Thunder. He is also 11-12 (47.8%) during the playoffs. With larger expectations out of the team, Brooks is going to start to get evaluated under a microscope.

Russell Westbrook needs to step up for the Oklahoma City Thunder

Blogged under The NBA Playoffs, General, Bloglockers, Need to step up, Front Page by alleyoop on Monday 9 May 2011 at 10:16 am

Russell Westbrook is getting outplayed by Mike Conley so far in the second round of the playoffs and it’s going to be really hard for the Thunder to beat the Grizzlies in this series if this continues. Westbrook has played in 3 games against the Grizzlies in the second round of the playoffs and he is averaging 38.0 minutes, 25.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, 8.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game. Those are pretty impressive numbers until you figure in that he is shooting 25 of 65 (38.5%) from the floor. Westbrook has now played in 8 games (all starts) in the playoffs so far and he is averaging 36.8 minutes, 24.4 points, 5.8 rebounds, 6.9 assists and 1.3 steals per game. He is only shooting 39.2% from the floor and 33.3% from three point range so far in the playoffs and that needs to change if the Thunder are going to reach their goal.

The Oklahoma City Thunder send Byron Mullens back to the D-League

Blogged under Big Thunder News, General, Comings & Goings, Bloglockers, Need to step up, Front Page by alleyoop on Thursday 3 February 2011 at 10:20 pm

The Thunder have sent 21-year old center Byron Mullens back to the Tulsa 66ers of the NBA’s D-League. Mullens has played in 12 games (0 starts) so far this year for the Thunder and he is averaging 4.7 minutes, 1.3 points and 1.6 rebounds per game on 26.3% shooting from the floor. He has now played in 25 games (0 starts) in parts of two years with the Thunder and he is averaging 4.4 minutes, 1.2 points and 1.2 rebounds per game on 31.6% shooting from the floor! Mullens has been awful but maybe he will be able to improve his game in the D-League seeing how he will likely get consistent P.T.

The Oklahoma City Thunder need Jeff Green to step up

Blogged under General, Bloglockers, Need to step up, Front Page by alleyoop on Friday 21 January 2011 at 6:56 pm

24-year old starting power forward Jeff Green is having a very tough month so far in January. Green has played in 8 games so far this month and he is averaging 34.0 minutes, 11.4 points, 4.4 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.3 steals per game. He is only shooting 38.9% from the floor, 29.6% from three point range (8 of 27) and 65% from the free throw line this month, and that’s pathetic! Green has now played in 35 games (all starts) for the Thunder so far this year and he is averaging 37.2 minutes, 15.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.0 steal per game. The Thunder need Green to step up if they are going to click on all cylinders on offense because Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook can’t do everything.

Blogged under General, Bloglockers, Need to step up, Front Page by alleyoop on Tuesday 28 December 2010 at 7:31 pm

27-year old center Nenad Krstic needs to pick up the pace or Serge Ibaka and Nick Collison are going to continue taking minutes from him. Krstic has played in 7 games this December so far and he is averaging 19.9 minutes, 8.3 points, 3.9 rebounds and 0.4 asssits per game on 51% shooting from the floor. Krstic has now played in 22 games (all starts) for the Thunder so far this year and he is averaging 23.8 minutes, 7.8 points, 4.7 rebounds and 0.4 assists per game.
