The Oklahoma City Thunder lose Eric Maynor for the rest of the 2011-12 season

Blogged under Big Thunder News, General, Bloglockers, Need to step up, Front Page, Injuries by alleyoop on Monday 9 January 2012 at 8:59 am

The Thunder will be without 24-year old point guard Eric Maynor for the rest of the 2011-12 season due to a torn ACL. Maynor played in 9 games for the Thunder this year and he averaged 15.2 minutes, 4.2 points, 1.4 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game. He has now played in 146 games in his first three years with the Thunder and he is averaging 15.4 minutes, 4.3 points, 1.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game. It will be up to 21-year old rookie Reggie Jackson to replace Maynor as Russell Westbrook’s caddy. Jackson has played in 4 games (0 starts) for the Thunder so far this year and he is averaging 9.3 minutes, 4.5 points, 0.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game.

The Oklahoma City Thunder waive Nate Robinson

The Thunder have bought out the rest of 27-year old point guard Nate Robinson’s contract, and they then waived him. Robinson played in 4 games (0 starts) for the Thunder last year and he averaged 7.5 minutes, 3.3 points, 0.3 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game. He has now played in 397 games (72 starts) in his NBA career and he is averaging 23.0 minutes, 11.3 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game. The Thunder are loaded at the guard spots, so they won’t miss Robinson in 2011-12. Robinson should have little problem finding a new job.

The Oklahoma City Thunder deal center Byron Mullens to the Bobcats

Blogged under Big Thunder News, Comings & Goings, Bloglockers, Front Page by alleyoop on Monday 19 December 2011 at 4:36 pm

The Thunder have sent 22-year old center Byron Mullens to the Charlotte Bobcats for a 2nd round pick in 2013. Mullens played in 13 games (0 starts) for the Thunder last year and he averaged 6.5 minutes, 1.9 points and 1.3 rebounds per game. He played in 26 games (0 starts) in his two years with the Thunder and he averaged 5.3 minutes, 1.5 points and 1.3 rebounds per game. Mullens only shot 34% from the floor for the Bobcats and he was buried on the depth chart. At least the Thunder got something for Mullens and they deal him to a team (the Bobcats) which isn’t going to threaten them any time soon.

The Oklahoma City Thunder keep Nazr Mohammed on a 1-year deal

Blogged under General, Big Thunder News, Comings & Goings, Bloglockers, Front Page by alleyoop on Wednesday 29 June 2011 at 6:59 pm

The Thunder have signed 33-year old center Nazr Mohammed to a 1-year extension for the 2011-12 season. Mohammed played in 24 games (7 starts) for the Thunder after coming over in a deal with the Bobcats and he averaged 17.9 minutes, 6.9 points, 4.8 rebounds and 0.3 assists per game. He played in 75 games (37 starts) overall for the Thunder & Bobcats last year and he averaged 17.1 minutes, 7.1 points, 4.9 rebounds and 0.3 assists per game. Mohammed has now played in 771 games (340 starts) in his NBA career and he is averaging 17.9 minutes, 6.9 points, 5.4 rebounds and 0.4 assists per game. This was a smart move for the Thunder.

The Oklahoma City Thunder picked Reggie Jackson in the first round of the 2011 NBA Draft

Blogged under Big Thunder News, General, The Draft Report, Comings & Goings, Bloglockers, Front Page by alleyoop on Friday 24 June 2011 at 4:34 pm

The Thunder picked 21-year old, 6′3″, 208 pound SG/PG Reggie Jackson with the 24th overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft. Jackson played in 34 games for Boston College last year and he averaged 34.1 minutes, 18.2 points, 4.3 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.1 steals per game. He played in 99 games in his three years in college and he averaged 28.0 minutes, 12.7 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game. This pick kind of surprised me a little bit as Jackson is a offensive player who likes to take his shots. It’s hard to see where Jackson fits in unless the Thunder deal Thabo Sefolosha or Eric Maynor before the 2011-12 season begins.
