The Seattle Supersonics have a very talented bench

Blogged under Bloglockers, Big Supersonics News, Front Page by alleyoop on Wednesday 31 October 2007 at 2:11 pm

The Sonics have a nice blend of youth and experience on there bench for this season. 1st round pick Jeff Green will start the season coming off of the bench but he will likely be starting by mid-season at small forward. Combo guard Delonte West will likely be the #3 guard for the Sonics this season. He played in 69 games (47 starts) last season for the Celtics and he averaged 32.1 minutes, 12.2 points, 3.0 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 1.1 steals per game. Wally Szczerbiak will also be an important part of the bench as he’s a lethal long range shooter. He played in 32 games (19 starts) for he Celtics last season and he averaged 28.1 minutes, 15.0 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game. The Sonics will likely keep trying to trade point guard Luke Ridnour but as long as he’s a Sonic they will use him. He played in 71 games (58 starts) last season for the Sonics and he averaged 29.5 minutes, 11.0 points, 2.3 rebounds, 5.2 assists and 1.2 steals per game. Power forward Kurt Thomas was brought in by the Sonics in a trade with the Suns and he will back up Chris Wilcox this season. Thomas played in 67 games (13 starts) for the Suns last season and he averaged 18.1 minutes, 4.6 points, 5.7 rebounds and 0.4 assists per game. 2nd year forward Mickael Gelebale was a surprise for the Sonics last season as he played in 70 games (14 starts) and he averaged 17.7 minutes, 4.6 points, 2.5 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game. Johan Petro will back up at power forward and center this season for the Sonics and he’s a rapidly improving player. He played in 68 games (41 starts) last season for the Sonics and he averaged 18.9 minutes, 5.2 points, 4.4 rebounds and 0.2 assists per game. Robert Swift missed all of last season but the Sonics hope that he will contribute this season as he has recovered from a severed injury. Swift has played in 63 games (20 starts) in his NBA career and he has averaged 16.8 minutes, 5.0 points, 4.3 rebounds, 0.2 assists and 1.0 block per game.

The Seattle Supersonics are young in the starting lineup

The Sonics might be young in the starting lineup but they are talented. 1st round pick Kevin Durant will be the main man on offense for the Sonics. He has all of the moves and he has a soft outside shot which will make him a force at some point this season. Earl Watson won the starting job at point guard for the Sonics and he’s a good passer which should help the offense. He played in 72 games (25 starts) for the Sonics last season and he averaged 27.9 minutes, 9.4 points, 2.4 rebounds, 5.7 assists and 1.3 steals per game. Damien Wilkins will be the starting small forward at the start of the season for the Sonics. He played in 82 games (31 starts) for the Sonics last year and he averaged 24.9 minutes, 8.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.1 steals per game. Chris Wilcox will be the starting power forward for the Sonics again this season and he’s been quite a steal for the Sonics as he was acquired in the Vladimir Radmanovic trade with the Clippers. Wilcox played in 82 games (81 starts) last season for the Sonics and he averaged 31.5 minutes, 13.5 points, 7.7 rebounds and 1.0 assist per game. Nick Collison will be the starting center at the start of the season for the Sonics and he was a pleasant surprise for them last year. Collison played in 82 games (56 starts) last season for the Sonics and he averaged 29.0 minutes, 9.6 points, 8.1 rebounds and 1.0 assist per game.

The Seattle Supersonics let forward Andre Brown walk

Blogged under Comings & Goings, Bloglockers, Big Supersonics News, Front Page by alleyoop on Monday 23 July 2007 at 12:23 pm

The Seattle Sonics have let Andre Brown walk as a free agent as he has signed on to play for the Memphis Grizzlies.  Brown played in 38 games (0 starts) as a rookie last season for the Sonics and he averaged 7.1 minutes, 2.4 points, 1.9 rebounds and 0.1 assists per game.  He shot 56.8% from the floor and 60% from the free throw line.  The Sonics may regret letting Brown walk because he played well when given a chance as a rookie last year.

The Seattle Supersonics acquire power forward Kurt Thomas from the Suns

The Supersonics have acquired power forward Kurt Thomas and first round picks in both 2008+2010 from the Suns for a conditional 2009 second round pick.  This was an excellent move for the Sonics who took advantage of the Suns salary cap situation.  Thomas played in 67 games (13 starts) last season for the Suns and he averaged 18.0 minutes, 4.6 points, 5.7 rebounds and 0.4 assists per game.  Thomas shot 48.6% from the floor and 78.9% from the free throw line.

Over his NBA career Thomas has played in 747 games (526 starts) and he has averaged 27.8 minutes, 10.1 points, 7.4 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game.  He has made 48.4% of his shots from the floor, 25.9% from three point range and 76.9% from the free throw line.

The Sonics acquire Jeff Green from the Celtics

Blogged under The Draft Report, Bloglockers, Big Supersonics News, Front Page by alleyoop on Friday 29 June 2007 at 9:00 am

Green was the key part in the Ray Allen trade with the Celtics.  Jeff Green was the number 5 pick in the NBA Draft.  The 6?9?, 235 pound forward from Georgetown will likely pair with Kevin Durant at forward to give the Sonics a talented tandem.  Green played in 102 games at Georgetown and he averaged 13.2 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 0.9 steals and 1.2 blocks per game.  It will be interesting to see how the Sonics split up the forward minutes between Kevin Durant, Jeff Green and Chris Wilcox.
