The Oklahoma City Thunder keep Nazr Mohammed on a 1-year deal

The Thunder have signed 33-year old center Nazr Mohammed to a 1-year extension for the 2011-12 season. Mohammed played in 24 games (7 starts) for the Thunder after coming over in a deal with the Bobcats and he averaged 17.9 minutes, 6.9 points, 4.8 rebounds and 0.3 assists per game. He played in 75 games (37 starts) overall for the Thunder & Bobcats last year and he averaged 17.1 minutes, 7.1 points, 4.9 rebounds and 0.3 assists per game. Mohammed has now played in 771 games (340 starts) in his NBA career and he is averaging 17.9 minutes, 6.9 points, 5.4 rebounds and 0.4 assists per game. This was a smart move for the Thunder.

The Oklahoma City Thunder picked Reggie Jackson in the first round of the 2011 NBA Draft

The Thunder picked 21-year old, 6′3″, 208 pound SG/PG Reggie Jackson with the 24th overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft. Jackson played in 34 games for Boston College last year and he averaged 34.1 minutes, 18.2 points, 4.3 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.1 steals per game. He played in 99 games in his three years in college and he averaged 28.0 minutes, 12.7 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game. This pick kind of surprised me a little bit as Jackson is a offensive player who likes to take his shots. It’s hard to see where Jackson fits in unless the Thunder deal Thabo Sefolosha or Eric Maynor before the 2011-12 season begins.

The Oklahoma City Thunder will be looking to make a solid pick on Thursday in the NBA Draft

The Thunder have the #24 overall pick in the NBA Draft this Thursday. The Thunder should consider using the pick on the best available small forward. That way they can give Kevin Durant a day off once in a while. Tyler Honeycutt out of UCLA would be a perfect fit as Durant’s caddy. Marcus Morris, Tobias Harris and Jordan Hamilton are other small forwards that could be available. The Thunder could also decide to take a big man at #24 with center Jordan Williams and PF Trey Tompkins being the best two bigs available. I think I would go with a small forward though to give Kevin Durant a break just like Eric Maynor does for Russell Westbrook.

The Oklahoma City Thunder have two free agents heading into the summer

SF Daequan Cook and C Nazr Mohammed are the only free agents heading into this summer for the Thunder. I think that Cook will likely come back the Thunder as long as the price isn’t too high. I think that Mohammed will get a decent offer somewhere else though, so the Thunder will have to either go with one of their young centers to backup Kendrick Perkins in 2011-12 or make a deal or sign a free agent to back him up. The Thunder head into this off-season with the team mostly intact and that’s a good thing.
