The Supersonics waive Brent Barry

The Sonics have waived Brent Barry before he even put on their uniform. The Sonics made this move because they needed roster space for all of the other players they have acquired in the last couple of days. Still, look for Barry to be snapped up by a contender soon as he’s still a great shooter.

Seattle Supersonics 108, Memphis Grizzlies 101

The Sonics shot 52.5% from the floor on Tuesday Night and that was the key to victory. Earl Watson led the way for the Sonics with 26 points, 3 rebounds and 9 assists. Wally Szczerbiak’s last game with the Sonics was a good one as he finished with 24 points and 4 rebounds in only 27 minutes. Nick Collison pitched in with 12 points and 9 rebounds in only 22 minutes. The Supersonics are now 14-38 on the season.

The Seattle Supersonics involved in a huge three team, 11 player trade

The Seattle Supersonics traded Wally Szczerbiak and Delonte West to the Cleveland Cavaliers and they received Ira Newble and Donyell Marshall from the Cavs. They also acquired Adrian Griffin from the Bulls. The Bulls received Cedric Simmons, Shannon Brown, Drew Gooden and Larry Hughes from the Cavs. The Cavs then received Ben Wallace and Joe Smith from the Bulls.

In essence the Sonics got a bunch of garbage from the Cavs and Bulls for Szczerbiak and West. Ira Newble played in 41 games (13 starts) this season for the Cavs and he averaged 15.9 minutes, 4.3 points, 2.8 rebounds and 0.3 assists per game. Newble has now played in 372 games (197 starts) in his NBA career and he has averaged 20.4 minutes, 5.2 points, 3.0 rebounds and 0.9 assists per game. Donyell Marshall has played in 11 games (1 start) this season for the Cavs and he has averaged 14.2 minutes, 3.7 points, 2.7 rebounds and 0.5 assists per game. Marshall has only shot 29.5% from the floor this season. He has now played in 917 games (422 starts) in his NBA career and he has averaged 26.9 minutes, 11.5 points, 6.9 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game. Adrian Griffin has played in 22 games (2 starts) this season for the Bulls and he has averaged 10.1 minutes, 2.3 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.0 assist per game. Griffin has now played in 464 games (179 starts) in his NBA career and he has averaged 17.1 minutes, 4.1 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game. This move basically was to just get expiring contracts for the Sonics as none of these players has much of a future with the team.

Wally Szczerbiak played in 50 games (1 start) this season for the Sonics and he averaged 23.6 minutes, 13.1 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game. He shot well from everywhere on the court for the Sonics this season as he hit 46% from the floor, 42.8% from three point range and 84.3% from the free throw line. Delonte West played in 35 games (5 starts) for the Sonics this season and he averaged 20.8 minutes, 6.8 points, 2.7 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game.

The Seattle Supersonics trade Kurt Thomas to the Spurs

Blogged under General, Comings & Goings, Bloglockers, Big Supersonics News, Front Page by alleyoop on Thursday 21 February 2008 at 6:23 pm

The Supersonics have traded Kurt Thomas to the Spurs for Brent Barry, Francisco Elson and a first round pick in 2009. 36-year old Brent Barry played in 29 games (1 start) so far this season for the Spurs and he was averaging 18.7 minutes, 7.3 points, 1.9 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game. He has shot well from everywhere on the floor as he is hitting 48.1% from the floor, 43% from three point range and 95% from the free throw line this season. He has now played in 854 games (448 starts) in his NBA career and he has averaged 26.7 minutes, 9.7 points, 3.1 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.1 steals per game. He will likely fill the role of Wally Szczerbiak who was traded to the Cavaliers today. Francisco Elson has played in 41 games (3 starts) this season for the Spurs and he averaged 13.0 minutes, 3.5 points, 3.3 rebounds and 0.4 assists per game. Elson has now played in 312 games (123 starts) in his NBA career and he has averaged 16.9 minutes, 4.2 points, 3.9 rebounds and 0.6 assists per game. With the Sonics building for the future it was nice to acquire another future first round pick in this trade.

Utah Jazz 112, Seattle Supersonics 93

Blogged under General, Bloglockers, Game Recaps, Front Page by alleyoop on Saturday 16 February 2008 at 4:27 pm

The Supersonics defense was horrible as the Jazz shot 51.3% from the floor last Wednesday Night and it killed them. Kevin Durant led the way for the Sonics with 19 points, 3 rebounds and 2 steals. Damien Wilkins finished up with 14 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists off the bench. Chris Wilcox pitched in with 11 points, 3 rebounds and 4 steals. The Supersonics are now 13-38 on the season.
