Sonics turn tables on Lakers and prevail 117-101

Blogged under Front Page by Nothing but Net on Monday 6 November 2006 at 1:43 am

The Sonics were running & gunning and the Lakers couldn’t keep up with them.  Ray Allen had another fantastic game with 32 points, 3 rebounds and 6 assists.  Rashard Lewis also had a great game with 25 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists.  Luke Ridnour scored 22 points and dished out 7 assists.  Back-up point guard Earl Watson had another good game, scoring 12 points, grabbing 5 rebounds, dishing out 5 assists and stealing the ball 4 times.  Chris Wilcox had another decent game with 10 points & 8 rebounds.

The Sonics were sizzling from the floor, hitting 51.9% of their shots.  The Sonics might have to shoot like that alot to win games because they don’t have many players on the team that like to play defense.

Sonics lose track meet with Lakers 118-112

Blogged under Front Page by Nothing but Net on Saturday 4 November 2006 at 12:22 pm

The Sonics were leading the game 88-86 entering the 4th quarter, but the Lakers out-scored the Sonics 32-24 in the 4th quarter to prevail.  Can’t blame the loss on Ray Allen, who scored 30 points, grabbed 5 rebounds, dished out 5 assists and stole the ball 6 times!  Rashard Lewis was his usual solid self, scoring 28 points & grabbing 8 rebounds.  Chris Wilcox was tough on the boards grabbing 12  rebounds and scoring 11 points.  Luke Ridnour (12 points), Earl Watson (13 points, 7 assists) & Damien Wilkins (12 points) also contributed to the scoring fest.

Ths Sonics can score, but they need to tighten up the defense.

Sonics play poor defense and lose 110-106 to Blazers

Blogged under Front Page by Nothing but Net on Friday 3 November 2006 at 10:50 am

The Sonics allowed the Blazers to shoot 54.8% from the field and that doomed them in the end.  The Sonics looked great on offense, as they were led by forward Rashard Lewis who scored 25 points and grabbed 8 rebounds.  Ray Allen had his usual solid game scoring 22 points.  Chris Wilcox continued his fine play since coming over from the Clippers, scoring 17 points and grabbing 6 rebounds.  PG Luke Ridnour really filled up the boxscore against the Blazers.  Luke scored 22 points, snatched 5 rebounds, dished out 13 assists and stole the ball three times.

The Sonics need to improve their defense or this could be a long season.

Shooting Guards

Blogged under Front Page by Nothing but Net on Friday 3 November 2006 at 10:45 am

Ray Allen is simply one of the best players in the NBA.  He’s like Seattle’s little secret in the NBA, as he doesn’t get the respect that many other high-profile players get.  Allen is a fantastic shooter from anywhere on the court (44.7% FGs, 39.9% 3-pointers, 88.6% FTs) and he can take over a game on offense at any time.  Allen has averaged 21.1 points, 4.6 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.3 steals per game over his career.  The Sonics needed him to score more last season and he did, averaging 25.1 points per game and there’s no reason why he can’t score that much or more this season.

Damien Wilkins is the back-up for the Sonics.  Wilkins doesn’t get much court time, but he’s a good shooter when he stays inside the 3-point line.  Wilkins has averaged 6.5 points, 2.3 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 0.9 steals per game in his 111 game NBA career.

Kareem Rush will be the #3 shooting guard for the Sonics.  He probably won’t get much court time, but he is a better long-range shooter than Wilkins is.  Rush has averaged 6.4 points, 1.6 rebounds and 1.0 assists per game over his career.
