Sonics can’t keep up with the Jazz and fall 118-109

Blogged under Front Page by Nothing but Net on Saturday 18 November 2006 at 11:44 am

The Sonics shot 53.6% from the floor last night, but they got out-rebounded 47-27 by the Jazz.  The Sonics also didn’t play any defense allowing the Jazz to shoot 50.6% from the floor.

Ray Allen led the way with 32 points & 5 rebounds.  Rashard Lewis pitched in with 24 points.  Luke Ridnour directed the attack with 15 points and 7 assists.  Nick Collison scored 11 points.  Chris Wilcox scored 8 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.

The Sonics have fallen to 4-6 on the season.

Sonics fall to the Sixers 96-90

The Sonics just couldn’t get any help from their bench to help them finish this game off.  Rashard Lewis had an awesome game with 25 points & 15 rebounds.  Ray Allen had a decent game with 22 points.  Luke Ridnour kept up his recent good offensive play with 20 points & 7 assists.  Chris Wilcox had a monster game in the paint with 9 points & 15 rebounds.

The Sonics need to to a better job of defending the home court, as they fell to 4-5 on the season.

Centers

Johan Petro will be the starter at center for the Sonics this season.  Petro had a good rookie season despite only playing 18.9 minutes per game.  Petro averaged 5.2 points & 4.4 rebounds as a rookie.  All the Sonics want from the center position is good defense and rebounding and Petro can that to them.

Mouhamed Sene was the first round draft pick of the Sonics this season.  Sene is a very raw offensive player, but he should be able to rebound and block some shots this season.

Robert Swift blew out his knee and will miss the entire season.  That’s too bad, because he was starting to really show some ability last year.  For his young career, Swift has averaged 5.0 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.0 block per game.

Small Forwards

Rashard Lewis has been a fine #2 option on the Sonics offense for awhile now.  He had a fine season last year as he averaged 20.1 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game.  Lewis is a very good 3-point shooter, as he has hit 38.6% of them in his career.  That stretches the opposing defense and opens up the paint for some of the other Sonics.  For his career, Lewis has averaged 16.0 points, 5.7 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.2 steals per game.

Rookie Mickael Gelabale and Damien Wilkins will probably get most of the minutes behind Lewis.

Sonics out-run the Nets 117-113

The Sonics raced out to a 35-17 lead after one quarter and then cruised to victory.  The Sonics shot well (48.4% from the floor) and out-rebounded the Nets 46-34!  Luke Ridnour might have had his best game ever as a pro, scoring 32 points, grabbed 4 rebounds and dished out 7 assists.  Rashard Lewis also had a great game with 27 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists.  Chris Wilcox continued his great start to the season with 22 points & 9 rebounds.  Ray Allen also pitched in with 22 points.

The Sonics have improved to 4-4 after a rough first week, and they are playing well.
